Every Store Has a Great Story

Ours begins more than 60 years ago in Mundelein, Illinois when Norman Cutler joined Mike Steinberg in running C&S Railroad Salvage – a clearinghouse business that bought up salvage and hardware from railroad cars, then sold them at bargain prices right out of cut-open boxes on their showroom floor.

Cutler took over the business when Steinberg retired, and C&S soon evolved into a hardware store with a heavy emphasis on selling work boots to the area’s many tradesmen.  By the 1980s work clothing had been added to the store’s lines of goods.  Their popularity grew so much among area customers that the store – transformed now to Cutler Workwear – altered its focus strictly to work wear, work boots and safety ware, offering a huge range of brands, products and styles for men and women.
